Foil Printing FAQ
Have a question about custom foil printing? Check out these foil printing FAQ and learn what foil colors are available, how to indicate foil on your print-ready file, what stocks to pair your foil with and more.
Want a quick crash course on how to add foil to your project? Here you go:
What is foil printing?
Our foil printing is created with a digital Sleeking™ process that ensures the foil fuses to the ink and not the paper. The result is foil that shines so much more than simple metallic ink. See all of our foil products.
What foil colors are available?
Currently, we offer foil printing in gold, silver and holographic foil, plus clear spot gloss.
What is raised foil printing?
Raised foil printing is a print process where the raised foil is laid over the top of your print designs. The result is a textured, 3D effect and get-noticed shine. See all of our raised foil products.
What raised foil colors are available?
Currently, we offer raised foil printing in gold gloss, gold matte, silver gloss, silver matte, blue, red, green and holographic.
What paper stocks do you recommend for foil printing?
For both foil and raised foil products, we recommend printing on coated stocks. We do not recommend printing on uncoated stocks or textured stocks.
Choose coated semigloss 1-side (C1S) stock and one-sided foil printing if you’d like to write on the other side of your print products.

What are the bleed requirements?
For all foil products, it’s important to know that the foil ink or coating cannot have full bleed. However, your artwork file must include a 0.125” bleed that’s necessary for production.
Bleed is printing that goes beyond the edge of your print product after trimming. If bleed is not included in your document setup, there’s a good chance there’ll be a gap between the edge of the printed area and the cut line. This happens because there’s a tolerance when cutting the printed piece. Learn more: Bleed & Crop Marks
