Upgrade Your Networking: Raised Spot UV on Business Cards

Business cards have to do a lot with a little. The thing to set the tone and set yourself apart? Raised spot UV on business cards. It’s ultra shine for ultra sophistication with a raised texture you can actually feel. This is clear gloss on another level. Your networking won’t know what hit it.

Brilliant, Not Boring

Our raised UV business cards do what standard business cards can’t – make your networking interactions more than memorable. With clear gloss laid over the top of your print design, this kind of raised ink printing creates stunningly transparent shine and a 3D texture you can really and truly feel.

But they’re not just business cards with raised ink. They feature raised UV ink. And what is UV printing? It’s a modern form of digital printing (something we specialize in, BTW). It uses ultraviolet light to dry or cure the raised coating as it’s printed, so you get a high-gloss finish, vibrant colors and a crisp, commanding look. What more could you want on something designed to keep you top-of-mind?

Similar to spot UV on business cards but distinct in its tactile texture, raised UV can be applied like a coating over patterns, logos and bold typography, so your custom business cards are just that (see more of our design tips below).

Raised UV Design Tips

Whether you’re printing raised spot UV on business cards for networking, loyalty cards for customers or package inserts for products, there are some definite design dos and don’ts.

Do design spot UV business cards with:

  • A logo or bold typography. Play around with ink beneath it for a tone-on-tone look.
  • A pattern the raised UV coating can highlight. Choose a pattern that isn’t too intricate so the shine and texture really get the spotlight (thick, bold elements work best for this).
  • An image the UV coating can accent. Choose a part of the image that shows something shiny to get the best effect (metal, a glass window, water or even an eye!).
  • A partial flood of the UV coating. This adds shine over one section in your design.

Don’t design a raised spot UV business card with:

  • Super small typography. Your design will have a messy, less textured definition and lose the shiny effect.
  • A full flood of raised UV coating. If you’d like a full flood of shine over your entire design, we recommend simply adding a gloss laminate or coating.
  • Uncoated paper stocks. They don’t provide a suitable surface for the UV coating to adhere to effectively. (Note: If you select a stock like Coated Semigloss 1 Side (C1S), the raised UV coating can be applied to the coated side of the stock only. If you select a stock like Coated Semigloss 2 Sided (C2S), it can be applied to both sides.)

You don’t have to be an expert designer to print business cards online. Just stick to these dos and don’ts (and start an online chat with us if you’re really stuck – we have plenty of experts around here).

Hint: Want to review your design before you submit it for online printing? Be sure to select a soft proof when making your specifications (do this before you add your product to your cart). Problem solved.
