When Intelligentsia spun off its tea business into a separate company, Kilogram, the brand took on a voice of its own. What do I wanna do?\u2019&#8221; Rob said. \u201cThe project was so open-ended.\u201d After some initial sketches that were too close to the Intelligentsia brand, Palas told Patterson to take another run at the project. \u201cInitially, I was crushed, but luckily I got another month to work on it, so I started over,\u201d Rob recalled.<\/p> <p>&nbsp;<\/p> <p>Patterson deliberately took time to learn everything he could about the tea. \u201cDrinking it, talking to the farmer to find out where it\u2019s grown and how it\u2019s processed,\u201d he recalls. \u201cOne day, I was mulling over things and I spotted these tea leaves in the bottom of a cup and I knew I was onto something.\u201d<\/p> <\/div> <\/div> <\/div> <\/div><!--block-empty--> <!--block: 50-50-image --><div class=\"row center-xs blockOffset-bottom-sm\"><div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-10 col-md-10\"><div class=\"row center-xs\"> <div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-6 no-pad blockOffset-top-sm blockOffset-right-sm raisedLeft\"><figure class=\"figureContainer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/0018-2018-05-Kilogram-Tea-High-Res.jpg\" alt=\"Print your own posters\"   \/><figcaption style=\"width: 100%;\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Layers and transparency proved challenging to print. &#8220;The prepress team figured it out,&#8221; said Patterson<\/p><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>  <p><div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-6 no-pad blockOffset-bottom-md\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/0017-2018-05-Kilogram-Tea-High-Res.jpg\" alt=\"Print posters online\"   \/><\/div><\/p> <\/div><\/div><\/div> <!--\/block--> <!--block--><div class=\"row center-xs\"><div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-8\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-xs-12\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><!--\/block--> <!--block: 50-50 --><div class=\"row center-xs\" ><div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-10 col-md-8\"><div class=\"row\"> <div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-6\"><!--[col]--> <p>Patterson also found inspiration in the Kilogram Tea packaging. \u201cThere\u2019s a very specific color scheme, three colors for each type of tea. Together they form this abstract landscape that\u2019s interesting.\u201d He says. For the <a href=\"https:\/\/smartpress.com\/pages\/custom-quote\">custom posters<\/a>, \u201cI wanted to make it more abstract and fun.\u201d<\/p> <!--[\/col]--><\/div> <div class=\"col-xs-12 col-sm-6\"><!--[col]--> <p>\u201cI had no <a href=\"https:\/\/smartpress.com\/support\/color-ink\/color-space\">color<\/a> training in college, I never took color theory,\u201d he continues. It\u2019s why I like to spend time researching first before I ever pick up a sketchbook.
